The Department of Marunthiyal (Pharmacology) is one of the most important departments in Siddha Medicine. This course includes Mooligai(Herb), thaathu(Metals & Minerals), and Jeevam(animals) subjects. This topic deals with a detailed study of several herbs and their descriptions, therapeutic actions, chemical constituents, and uses.
The department works best for students to learn about routes of drug administration, absorption, and distribution, biotransformation, pharmacokinetics, drug excretion, pharmacodynamics, and adverse drug reactions.

Our medical college Marunthiyal department has a pharmacy, raw drug storage room, drug preparation station, and drug laboratory with machines to train students in the preparation of new and rare drugs with guidelines of quality Siddha system. The department maintains a beautiful botanical garden in the college campus, which has more than 203 species & 816 plants. This herbal garden is designed in such a way that the students can look at the plants and identify them, read, and understand their uses.
Also, the purification of herbs and metals before making medicines plays an important role in pharmacology, the raw materials are subjected to purification before they are added to the preparation of medicines. Thus the detoxified medicine helps to increase healing properties. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of drugs helps to identify the active principles of the drug. We have a laboratory with appropriate equipment for drug purification and a separate laboratory for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
A well-maintained herbarium and raw drug museum function in the college where students can identify plants and raw drugs. Specialist teachers are available in the Marunthiyal Department to teach this medical subject to the students. Also, the college has a digital classroom facility.
